Peter Bart: The Legend
Many people have written to us and said, “I’ve joined the boycott on Facebook but I was never going to buy that magazine in the first place, what can I do?”
We think the answer is to just help spread light on what the Daily Variety and their law firm Fulbright & Jaworski are trying to do to the Vandals, and everyone else they can victimize. The more people that figure out their game, the less they’ll be able to do it. And we believe it is a crime.
The best way to do this is to tell as many people as possible what they’re doing. Use the web. They have labeled us “thieves”and “trademark counterfeiters” in the public filings and belittled us in public statements.
Originally we were under the impression that it was Variety’s lawyers that put them up to this. Since then we have inside information that this lawsuit started in Variety’s L.A marketing department. They were upset with our album artwork and wanted to bypass the 1st Amendment to satisfy their egos.
If you disagree with what these people are doing to the Vandals, and attempting to do to artists in general, spread the word so it can be stopped. Send this video to people, blog about it. That is your right. And it is our right to ask you for help. Post questions to them on their Facebook and web page. How about their twitter? @ReedElsevierHQ @variety. Comment on variety.com editor’s blog.
Perhaps you would like to send letters to the Daily Variety’s advertisers? We’ll have a list of them soon.
Oh wait, they don’t have any.
